Mazatlán FC played its last home game on Wednesday, which has again raised concerns about what the team generates in the commercial, hotel and tourism sectors. The president of the National Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Services (Canaco Servytur) in Mazatlán, Francisca Cázarez Oliveros, said that the negative repercussions in terms of economic impact are difficult to measure. She noted that there will also be a decrease in the projection and positioning of the port at the national level because the football franchise fulfilled a role of promotion and tourism dissemination, carrying the name of Mazatlán, which contributed to strengthening the identity of the destination and keeping it present. The councilor Maribel Chollet Morán said that the cost of maintaining the El Encanto stadium, which will have to be assumed by the State Government, must be foreseen and that it should not become idle infrastructure. She said that the State Tourism Secretariat detailed through a request for access to information that the average expenditure of an out-of-town visitor who came to a Mazatlán FC game was between 5,500 and 6,500 pesos, of which 41% was for hotel payment, 31% for food, 10% for transportation, 9% for purchases and 9% for activities. The mayor Estrella Palacios Domínguez said that Governor Rubén Rocha Moya is making efforts to bring a team from the Liga de Expansión to Mazatlán.
