Mazatlán ended its cycle in Liga MX after six years of uninterrupted competition. The Sinaloa team closed its cycle with a 5-1 loss to Tigres at the Estadio Universitario. It will be replaced by Atlante FC, which bought its place and will return to play in the top category, after 12 years of presence in the Liga de Expansión MX. The Sinaloa team rounded off a step without penalty or glory and the numbers confirm it: 48 wins, 56 draws and 100 losses, over 204 official matches played. Ricardo Salinas Pliego, entrepreneur and president of the club, lamented the harsh outcome: "Sometimes entrepreneurs have to take difficult decisions like this. When you can't guarantee security, legal certainty and minimum conditions for investment, you end up with jobs, opportunities and projects that gave life to cities". Over the years, it managed to qualify, only twice, for the repechage tournament, but could not advance to the final phase, being the most outstanding achievement. On the other hand, it was always denied entry to the Liguilla. Without any chance of reaching the quarterfinals, it ended the Clausura Tournament in 16th place with 15 points, with only four wins in 17 matches played. The lack of stability at the football level was reflected in the number of coaches who have passed through the institution: since 2020, nine were the technicians who commanded the team. Among them was the Argentine Rubén Romano, with extensive experience in Mexican football, who led Mazatlán in 2023. The team's poor performance was not only clear in sports, but also in institutional matters. It received multiple economic sanctions, which totaled $8.5 million. The Sinaloa team will join four other teams that have gone through a similar situation: Jaguares, Indios de Ciudad Juárez, Lobos Buap and Colibríes de Cuernavaca.
